Winter Visit and Snake Spotting

Hi Fellow DV lovers! I am making my third trip to DV from Ireland alone this Winter. Have never been in Winter and I hear it is the best time to go. Can anyone tell me reliably how many places are not worth trying to see in January? I want to go to Saline Valley and some high spots too like Zabriske point. Am I crazy? Is it dangerous? I may well hire a 4X drive.

Also - I have never seen a snake - St. Patrick hunted them all from Ireland - what was he thinking???
Is Winter a good time and does anyone know any good spots to catch a glimpse of some snakes?
