YES, but I think everyone except me is crazy. :-)

Do you mean Rent a 4X drive, or have someone in a 4X drive you around? Most rentals don't want you off the pavment. I would say a 4x is a good idea. Where you can travel depends alot on the snow level, I carry tire chains for all winter desert travel. No matter where you go, check at the vistor center first.

Zoos? I only have seen one snake in DV over the last 10 years, and he was REAL MAD, I think that was Oct, 99. My wife was suprised when I started taking her to the desert, she had the idea that deserts are covered with deadly snakes, what was she thinking?
Wish I could be more help, but depending on the type of winter we have, it hard to know where you can travel, and snakes in the winter are rare anyway.
