Nice reminder. This fall might be a good time to revisit fossil beds (outside the park, of course).
I grew up next to a seasonal creek that every 5 years or so turned into a major river. Hiking down the creek after a big flood event was always interesting, in terms of what I found. Weird stuff, amazing what can collect up in the hills. But watch for quicksand, if anyone is thinking of doing this anytime soon.
