T-storms in DVPosted by Cactus Jack on August 16, 2004 at 21:46:13: Yep, power is back on but there is the possibility of more storm activity tonight. We were fortunate that the temps were far below normal. Part of the flooding in Furnace Creek was due to damage to the water storage tank. I think it's a 20 million gallon tank and it was all added to the flood waters. As a result, FC has no drinking water. Best estimates at the moment are that there will be no water for 3 or 4 days, at least. There is no one here except the locals now. By 10am Cal-Trans was able to clear a path and people were escorted out. This was on 190 to the west. Escort was all the way to 395. Heard a path to the east through Mud Cyn was also cleared but don't know for sure. Still, no one is being allowed in. The Park is closed. The official word at Furnace Creek Ranch is that there will not be free travel in & out for about 4 days. The grapevive says maybe 8 days. I had an order of Omaha Steaks due in today. Guess that's not gonna happen for awhile. Damn! Life is hard in the desert. Still think it beats freeway traffic.
