First,I'd like to thank you Jerry for providing this fire-side chat type of forum. It give everyone the opportunity to share their knowledge, views, and opinions (including an occational grip), as well as a place to get and give information about the Death Valley region.
I can only hope that the future owners are as tollerant and understanding as you are.

I am a relative "newcomer" to the board. My first post was the TRUE STORY: Donna, The Bandit, and "The Map" - Southwest Chuck 19:10:48 04/13/04 (11). Some of my DV history is in that post. I have monitored this board off and on for over 8 months now. When I first arrived, I was somewhat put-off by some of the posts too. But then I started reading everything and even read a good portion of the archives, too. By doing that, I got a good feeling for the people here.

Here's my Cent.

For good or bad, Jerry, you have created a real fireside chat. What I saw with Sharon, was some one who walked up to the fire without knowing anyone and asked, what to her, was an innocent question. She also was probably attempting to start a conversation, with us stangers, trying to join in. The first few who piped up were rude and crude and were totally inapropriate. A few around the fire laughed. The rest were silent.
It's no wonder why Sharon was offended.

In my opinion, a great majority of the people who regularly post here are decent, upright people, people who I would invite to share my campfire anytime and hopefully will in the future. But these same people, myself included, were too slow to react and let Sharon know those posters are only a small minority of the DV Talk community and to ignore them. We didn't tell her that this is the price we must all pay to have real freedom here.

The other 1/2 cent...

You're right Jerry, it's a small price to pay. I can live with it. I just ignore them. People should'nt get baited into responding to them, even though it's tempting, sometimes. If no one responds, it takes the fun out of it for them and maybe they will eventually move on. I vote for Number 6.

Yes, there will be an occational casualty like Sharon. But I think if we all try, we can keep them to a minimum.

I pulled Sharon's e-mail address from her original post... ( sharmax@wowway.com )...and am sending her a link to this post with a request that she read them all... along with my appoligies. I hope others will too and encourage her to stay.

I'm sorry Sharon for not speaking up. It won't happen again. There are alot of good people here. Stick around and find out for yourself.

Southwest Chuck

P.S.
Jerry...Is it possible to put a "Links" button in the menu with links to sites that give info. about fequently asked questions.. i.e Snakes, wildflowers, weather, Death Valley points of interest, DV-NPS, etc.etc.? It might cut down on getting tha same questions over and over again from 1st time and casual visitors.
Just a thought...

SC
