CJ, I was a little steamed earlier and probably spoke a little harsher than I should...but you know what picture keeps going through my mind? Some guy about my age, from Southern California, taking his Mom on a vacation. He plots his course on a map and decides to swing through Death Valley. I think that by an unlucky stroke of fate he ends up on 190 at the wrong time. I bet he didn't have a clue that he was in any danger until he started being swept away. I can't even imagine the horror he and his Mom went through before expiring.

I would hate to think that this could have happened because someone didn't adequately prevent passage down a highway/wash with a known history of flashflodding and plenty of forewarning.

I hope that there's an investigation as to whether there was a barricade and if there was how he got around it. I hope the NPS analyses this tragedy and makes steps to prevent a repeat.

It seems like these poor souls had no kin, but my heart goes out to them.FD
