I guess the general caveat applies here. I second the notion that some times of the year are better than others for a bike trip in DV. I also STRONGLY subscribe to the "first blush" rule.
If, at first blush and with no deep thought, something sounds like a bad idea...IT IS!
As always, use your head. It would appear from other missives here, that the greatest danger comes from overconfidence.
