Yes, the road does to through. The stretch between Badger Pass and the highway is definately 4x4, and the trail is narrow in places so expect some pinstriping from the brush.

However, this route is fantastic, with occasional glimpses of the Sierras and a few Bristlecone Pines along the way. Papoose Flats is also a very unique area, rich in places and things to explore.

This trail is remote. If doing this solo, do bring a cel phone (you are likely to have good reception along the ridgeline) and a few days of extra food and water. I've done this route six times in three years and have yet to see another vehicle.
