Will you have a 4WD?? That would alter my
recommendations; whether or not you do. There are many magical spots ... there are quite a few really good books, too. There is 'Hiking in Death Valley' by.. Michael something or other (Diconet? Something like that?) great big book.
You can do long hikes at the higher elevations.
How much driving do you mind doing?
I've been to DV many times, and most times alone,
too (in case you are traveling alone and concerned about it at all)..
