When were you planning on going? If you're going from Panamint Springs, I would take Hunter Mountain to Racetrack, then Lippincott down into Saline.
I would say that going down Lippincott with high clearance 2WD is no problem. Going up it, plan on using 4WD to be safe. North and South are the easy routes in and out, though I've sometims had to use Lippincott in winter because it is the lowest elevation pass.
Also, Saline is going to be HOT. You might want to stop by the springs, say hi Lee, and then head on out to the North or South pass and camp there at the higher (cooler) elevations. Doubt there will be many people other than the camp host there this time of year.
There are a couple of routes in and out of Saline (North, South, Hunter, Lippincott, Steele), so as long as you have enough fuel you can usually find one that will work.
