All boys adventure in DV

Having visited DV many times in the past years on travels to Vegas, now that we are married, we like to add some excitement to our all guy getaways. I'm planning a 2 day run of the Valley starting at Panamint Springs up to Racetrack and across Lippencott Road for a night a Saline Valley Hot Springs.

Can 2wd SUV's make Lippencott or does it absolutely require 4 wheel drive. We're going in 2 trucks and bringing a heavy set friend just in case we get stuck and have to eat one of our own :)

Any info on conditions & 'real' requirements would be helpful. I was on DV in 2000 and was told it would take 105 minutes to the racetrack which turned out to be only 40 minutes.

Any help and suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.
