I've been on those same roads lately. It was business, but I won't do it again unless the travel is essential. I noticed when I went by the road crews, the work stopped for the sake of my safe passage. (No flagman, just me and the guy in that big machine. We knew each other.) He only stopped for the minute it took me to get past, but multiply that by all those other minutes for all the others (only locals, remember?) that went by so they could take pictures and it adds up to that much further the road guys could have been down the road and weren't able to get there. The people dying part. It was very tragic. Regardless, all of us are gonna do that, sooner or later. Maybe it will be less tragic for you or me. But, who knows? Mostly we don't get to choose the time, but sometimes we do. Still, mostly we don't. Regardless, it happens all the time out here, people dying I mean, just like everywhere else. I suppose that leads to your point #2. If there actually was a point. Well, after having giving it careful thought and having reflected on the other times I've been through flash floods, here and elsewhere, I couldn't agree more. I might push it. I might even push it too far. Well, hell. If that decision killed me, whose fault would it be? Well, crap. It was still tragic. Still... I've heard rhetoric that there was only a 20% chance that something would happen. Well, that 20% represents a chance of losing everything. That leaves an 80% chance of staying even. Personally, I would back out of that game. Given the choice. You heartless bastard...
