I traveled all of the affected roads in Death Valley on 8/8/04 - it was 121 at badwater. It's hard to believe all that destruction from when I was just there a week before. I am from NJ and five years ago it rained 10" here one day from tropical storm Floyd. That is almost a quarter of our yearly rainfall here and I can't imagine what kind of flood that would cause at Death Valley.

Its a shame what happened to those two people. I wonder if they even had a chance once the water started coming. Its strange because obviously the others there were able to get out their cars.

I wasn't out there long but coming back home it was an amazing change going back to the humidity and seeing all the greenery that is missing in the desert.

80 degrees with high humidity in NJ feels equivalent to over a hundred out there.
