Beatty Lady, I thought your questions were very good, I too was wondering about the occupants of the various vehicles that had been caught up in the flash flood. It is my understanding that a pipe from the 2,000,000 gallon water tank was damaged, not the tank itself. This may have contributed to the amount of water in the flash flood but not all 2,000,000 gallons in one great whoosh. To put the matter in some perspective, one inch of rainfall on one acre equals 27,225 gallons of water; one inch of rainfall on one square mile equals 17,424,000 gallons of water. That amount of water weighs 144,967,680 pounds or 72,483.84 tons of water. Of course, we don’t know how many square miles where involved and what amount of rain was falling in the Furnace Creek watershed and we don’t know how much of the falling rain is absorbed into the earth and what percentage came roaring down the wash. We do know that it was a bunch. Birdman PS The United States consumes about 840,000,000 gallons of crude oil per day for a little more perspective. Hce.
