Until the last 30/40 years no standards existed
for recording temperatures so some of the early
stuff is hard to compare. But I think the record
is Libya in september of 1922 136F. For Death Valley I show 134F in July 1913. Interesting stuff if you google "highest temperature recorded" The interesting part about the Libya
reading is it was not in the middle of the desert
but in a city near the sea and Tripoli.
