Rubiblue, David Wright and I vote for the Toyotas! They do great on the Swansea Grade! Although, I personally have been up there in a stock Blazer, and a Jeep, also. In past years we have had various stock vehicles up it with no problems. After David's pre-run trip report and that picture of that nasty area that hasn't been there in years past, we just figure it's best to err on the cautious side with this years group. Hmmm... I think everybody signed up has Cherokees this year....

Isn't part of the fun "the healthy competition" between the vehicles? We had an older man who always drove a "beautiful red Cherokee" as he called it. He went on all of our trips several years in a row, and has done the Swansea Grade just fine. However we always had great fun teasing him about all of the "Jeep parts" we picked up after him. On the flip side of the coin, on the Sherman Pass Jeep trail, one of our regulars drives a Jeep with a magnetic sign
that says "Toyota Recovery Vehicle".

Actually, I think I'd be more worried about old Scouts on the Swansea Grade. Isn't that what's lying at the side of the road and rusting away at the bottom of that last steep long rocky downhill, which I believe David Wright is identifying as Boiler Canyon?
