Chrysler came up with the great idea of mounting the engine management computer in the finder and using the hot dirty air cleaner feed to cool the circuit board. they also put the igniter/ignition module in the same computer, which tends to fail more often the fuel management part.
We are seeing igniter failures resulting in loss of spark to 4 or more cylinders, resulting in computer replacement….not good for a ’99…..
I own a 90 jeep and it is obvious that everything is an afterthought.
A good idea for the back road in a questionable car is to bring a 5 gal of propane with the adapter and a hose long enough to reach the vehicles air intake. I have got cars out of nasty spots using propane as a substitute fuel.
