It is in fact a great board with a lot of character. I am from, and live in Pennsylvania and find the West to be wonderful. I can simply say, that Death Valley is the most sacred places I have been too on the planet. It's diversity is amazing, it's silence deafening. I have now been out there 5 times, and I cam coming back again this Oct. and Nov. I cannot stay away. We don't have old mines, minerals (ok we have coal), vocanic activity, many indians, moving rocks, nor an Oasis. I don't mind staying at Furance Creek Inn. Ok, I am a bit of a snob, but I love doing some 4x4'ing out there. Speaking of the largest Gold Mine, in a recent post, I will put my vote in for Furnace Creek Inn. $300.00 per night, for 60+ rooms...but I will gladly donate. I am a miner by trade. I mine water. Truely. For many years I have Drilled water wells here in the east, and by state decree, drilling is mining. I understand the importance of water. It kills me to see people compaining about $2.00/ gallon of gas, but don't say anything about spending $ 1.00 for a 12 oz. bottle of water. Anyway, that is why the rocks and the Geology of Death Valleey is so amazing to me. Back here we have rocks too---mostly shale(read, boring), save for a few boulders that moved down from Canada. So we do have a lot of clays from glacial deposists which is somewhat interesting. Anyway, Carry on you desert rats! Mosaic
