Depending on your route of entry, U-Save in Bishop, California (in the eastern Sierra Nevada) rents 4x4s. Mostly Jeep Wranglers and Suzuki Vitara XL7.
I know for a fact they don't pull the front driveshaft. I've been on 4x4 runs with people who've rented the Wranglers and it definitely runs 4x4. Not 100% sure if the Vitaras are 2x4 or 2x4 equipped. Phone is (760) 872-1070.
