Well actually, there isn't any such sting going on. Also, the CDF is not stopping cars. They were in Tecopa destroying the illegal fireworks.
Vehicle stops are made based on vehicle code violations. If there is probable cause, an officer may search or receive consent to search.
Nobody's rights have been violated and it is doubtful that the Inyo DA is going to prosecute Ma and Pa for having a few fireworks.
It is perfectly legal to seize contraband for proper disposal without issuing a citation. Every offender has been allowed to leave and no vehicles have been impounded.
Now aren't you glad I straightened that all out?
