Large chunks of the thesis were devoted to tables—glossed over them. Of interest, every rock on the playa has a name and she plotted and photographed each one.
It is extremely important not to pick up, turn over, or remove the rocks. Her data (GPS coordinants) will allow others to follow the trek. She was not allowed to erect data gathering devices, so there is considerable extrapolation.
Wind, needless to say is the answer. We visited the Racetrack about a month ago; last time I was there was in 1953. Hadn't changed much!
There was only one tea pot at the junction back then. LeRoy
