I carry "hose repair kit". They can be found at most auto part stores, cost about $5. Mainly a few sizes of pipe, clamps, and sealer. Not a complete repair, but something to get you moving. Also, if you need to add water, have the engine running and add the water slowly, make sure you are ready to get out of the way if hot water shoots out. On long up grades, watch your water temp gauge, it will let you know 'Before its a problem' if you don't have a gauge, add one if you plan to keep the vehicle.
