Papoose/Squaw Flats Loop

Trail Report for: Papoose Flat/Northern Inyos

I traveled this loop on June 6, 2003. The road condition was excellent with no problems encountered, although there are the few stretches that require high ground clearance. I noticed that some road work had been performed on the steep switch backs to the north of Papoose Flat to fill in the deep rut that once ran the middle of the road. I drove the loop passing through Squaw Flat first then proceeding onto Papoose Flat. The only section of road that I thought would give reason for concern was the decent into Squaw Flat from the north. This section of road has a very steep decent with a strong off camber tilt. This portion of the road is not cut into the hillside as most of the road is, but rather traverses the surface resulting in high pucker factor. Vehicles with a high center of gravity could end up in the ravine several hundred feet below the road, so caution is very important.
