Posted by Pugsly on December 07, 2002 at 15:15:27: Trail Report for: Steel Pass - Saline Valley to Eureka Valley Steel Pass has recovered nicely from the floods of last year (2001). The route through the wash is now well marked and traveled, so take it easy and expect no problems. It appears that more and more vehicles are taking this route, maybe because of the 'taming' of Lippincott. Indeed, there are a few fun sections in Dedeckera canyon that could prove challenging to long wheelbase / long overhang vehicles. Inn reality, it looks a lot worse than it is. There is a closed road at the top of Steel Pass - when I came through this Thanksgiving I found that the NPS "wilderness area" stakes had been torn down. We placed the rocks back across the road, so please don't go up there. There really is nothing to see, just a spur road to the base of the mountain - save your lawbreaking for a trip to something interesting, if you must!
