Trail Report - March 8, 2002

Posted by Last Chance Rand on March 13, 2002 at 00:58:09:

Trail Report for: Warm Springs Canyon / Butte Valley / Goler Wash

Made a quick daytrip to the Barker Ranch via Manly Pass. Things are in fine shape, except there doesn't seem to be much water and vegetation in Sourdough Springs west of the Park border.

The ranch's porch roof once again provides modest shade, and its irrigation system was flowing water throughout its maze of PVC. Apparently, Spring has sprung early, and belly flowers and buttercups abound.

At Mengel Pass we noticed that the Geologists Cabin still had not been claimed, despite it being late on a Friday afternoon. Later we found that the upper reaches of the Lotus Mine provided us an extraordinary vantage point for sunset.

The entire Goler Wash route as in normal condition up to Mengel Pass, which was our destination. It was slow going on two or three short stretches above the route's northerly turn out of Goler Wash.

Sorry, no report on the condition of Mengel Pass' eastern slope, and no pics from the day.
