Posted by Last Chance Rand on January 10, 2002 at 01:50:19: Trail Report for: Saline Valley The day after Thanksgiving, we entered Saline Valley via the South Pass. Careful - watch out for the Road Maint. sawhorses marking a washout in Lee Flats. Above Lee Flats to the top of the pass was quite foggy -- watch out for oncoming traffic, especially around corners! Grapevine Canyon was virtually dry of surface flow, and the route was in normal condition: graded, but very washboardy & rough. The vehicle really takes a beating every time there... The route into Warm Springs was in very good condition, with sand somewhat hard packed. At time of this report, a stock 4x4 SUV can easily drive into Saline Valley, but doing so without "offroad" tires introduces a serious and unnecessary risk.
