Art Berggreen

Have lived my entire life in Southern California, most of that here in Santa Barbara.

Recently retired from a position as a data communications design architect. Started studying earth sciences as a hobby over 15 years ago. Started rockhounding about 10 years ago.

Started exploring the backroads of Death Valley about 4 years ago.

Daniel Brookman
aka Dezdan

I have been exploring the California Deserts for about nine years now. My true hobbies are Mine Exploring, Hiking, Off-Roading, and learning the history and lore of our deserts. Within the last two years I have fallen in love with Death Valley, it seams to be an endless place, I am always learning and seeing more of it. The Valley has a lot of secrets, and every now and then I discover a new one. Over the next couple of years I hope to have fully explored the valley, and see all it has to offer me.

Randall Ingalls
aka randall

I live in Petaluma, California and make it to the DV area 2 or 3 times a year. Usual trips are 7 to 10 days in the back country tent camping or available cabins. I drive a black 98 Jeep TJ with a moderate lift, 33" tires and limited slip rear diff. I usually travel alone (always very well prepared) or with my wife Jan. I started my trips in 1989 and have yet to tire of the place.

I'm a photographer with a studio in San Francisco. I'm not at all an urban person but I have to go where the work is. This makes my trips all the more precious. Can't wait to retire a long way from life in the big city.

Randy Stephenson
aka Minedoc

I began exploring the Death Valley area during the early 60’s, and have continued my passion for discovery of the area ever since. I take trips to the area as frequently as possible and am always on the lookout for any excuse to go. A few of the many reasons I enjoy this area are its people, history, geology and the quiet wide-open space.

I am a Geologist by degree, and am employed with a large independent oil company as a software administrator. I currently reside in Taft, CA. My current mode of transportation is a very capable 1990 Daihatsu Rocky that has served me well on my treks.

Jon Turner
aka Pugsly

I live and work in the San Francisco Bay area, but love the desert and High Sierras. You'll find me tooling around in my Range Rover, usually with other Land Rovers of various ages and conditions. Visit the "Pugsly" web site at: http://pugslyyy.home.attbi.com or email me at: pugslyyy@attbi.com

Pugsly "bares" the heat at the Saline Valley Hot Springs.

Randy Banis
(aka Last Chance Rand)

Randy is the editor of DeathValley.com and a resident of Leona Valley in the West Mojave desert. He is a life member of both the Death Valley '49ers and the Death Valley Natural History Association, and is also past President of the Southern California Land Rover club. Randy represents public access on the BLM's Ridgecrest Steering Committee, and served on the BLM's West Mojave route survey team in 2001-02.

Of most interest to Randy is the greater Death Valley region, particularly areas with historic & geologic ties to Death Valley itself. Though generally a vocal land use advocate, Randy is growing increasingly concerned with the health of the desert's environment and the growing impacts of humans. Randy supports the principles of "Tread Lightly," "Leave No Trace," and other responsible land use education programs.

Randy is often available to groups and organizations to lead tours in and around the Death Valley region at no charge. You can email Randy at editor@deathvalley.com.
