About 28 years ago, while driving from my base in El Paso, to Carlsbad Caverns in NM, my group that had 2 vehicles driving in tandem got pulled over in the middle of nowhere NM, for speeding 3 miles over the speed limit ( some how they got both vehicles to pull over for tickets)The officer wrote me and the driver of the other vehicle up for speeding and then escorted us both to the next gas station where the local justice convicted us and accepted our fine money before letting us on our way. I hate to think what would have happened if us gi's didn't have the cash to pay the fines. any way from that lesson on, when ever I leave my home town (mainly state) I tend to enter every town like an old lady
