Heard about airing down tires for washboard. What's the concensus?

Was talking to someone recently who mentioned that they air down their (BFG ATs I think) tire pressure to as low as 15 psi when going into SV to avoid the washboard jitters. Of course, they carry a 12-v compressor with them along with a spare but they said this was the best way to go. I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this.
