A couple or three years back, my nephew, and a few others, filled the swimming pool at Warm Springs, in Death Valley. They found some PVC pipe in the bushes, and started a good siphon from the creek. After letting it run all night, they went back the next day and were preparing to enjoy a nice swim. However, the local Ranger stopped by , and had other ideas. After reading everybody the riot act for creating a "Dangerous" hazard, they were obliged to empty the pool. I am not sure if a full pool is more dangerous than an empty one, but the Ranger had his way. Later, someone on this board told me that some dead, rabid, bats had been found in the empty pool, and that was the reason for all the concern. However, if the bats were long since removed, I have my doubts that there was any residual threat from their past existance. At the least, the Ranger could have explained what the perceived danger was, but he chose to just puff up his chest and assert his authority.
