Good morning people,
Legaly you can carry a firearm in any national monument or national park in the united states. You are prohibited from firing it. If you can demonstrate "the necessity defense" if is legal to discharge a firearm to save your life.
Personally, I used to camp in the most remote parts of Yellowstone where I was part of the food chain. It was easier for a grizzly to kill me than an elk. It got so hairy back there that I stopped going. It is hard to sleep at night when you run across a fresh kill elk and the blood has not coagulated.
Personally, I do carry a small .22 caliber "saturday night special" in a pocket on my buttpack. In grizzley country, I carry a 45 caliber.
I also show courtesy to those who seek the quiet of the wilderness and do not target shoot if I think it will disturb someones peace and quiet.
