Paleontology Resources - access restricted?

I am planning a trip to DV in April, and as usual, I am doing some research beforehand. I like finding things off the beaten path, that the rangers won't admit to knowing anything about. This started when I first visited the cabins in Butte Valley, which are actually on a fairly well-beaten path. I have visited Jayhawker Spring with it's 49ers graffiti, Steele Pass with its enigmatic Marble Bath, Gold Valley, and several other out-of-the-way spots. This year it is to be Death Valley's little discussed fossil record. I have read several official documents that discuss restricting access to the known areas. Does anyone know if there are closed areas? Do they have pedestrian equivalents to the Red Stakes that are used to block some of the old roads?

Thanks - Barney
