Park Boundries In South Park Canyon and Goler WashPosted by RemoteControlled on November 21, 2002 at 10:30:10: In Reply to: Re: A couple question on the Briggs cabin posted by Bob (not bob) on November 21, 2002 at 09:55:47:
The park boundry is east of Briggs Camp near the spring, although I can't recall seeing a NPS boundry sign within South Park Canyon. The boundry is marked in Pleasant Canyon. The park boundry in Goler Wash is right at the first turnout at Sourdough Spring; making Barker and Meyers Ranches within the park boundry. OHV/ATV/Dirt Bikes are legal anywhere outside the park boundries as long as they have Green Stickers and stay on existing roads (most of the BLM land around DVNP is designated Limited Use areas for OHVs). As far as damage caused by motorcycles or ATVs, it is insignificant compared to jeep/truck/SUV types and non-existent compared to Mother Nature. The road up South Park to Briggs Camp is a freeway. I've been up there three times in the past six months with a stock Grand Cherokee riding on Michelin Cross-Terrain tires, which are passenger-rated highway donuts!Sure, I'll get a cut or two on my sidewalls, but clearance and traction pose no problems. Obviously, there are some people out there that want you to believe that South Park Canyon is inaccessable, or at least requires a modified 4X4 - bull pucky!
