Denver,

On July 25th 2001, thirty dead were found floating in the pool. Park staff submitted 5 of the bat carcasses to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Of the 5 bats submitted, three tested positive for carrying rabies. The park immediately contacted the Public Health Department of Inyo County as well as the NPS Biological Resources Management Division at Fort Collins Colorado and the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta Georgia.  On August 16th the Deputy Director of Environmental Health and Animal Control for Inyo County declared the immediate closure and draining of the pool. Ever since the pool has been doomed and dry...

Wondering how I know all this? Well on 9/20/01 I read the park service news bulletin posted of the side of the Ballarat General store. The bulletin asked for anyone who was in the area on/before/after the 25th of July to call the Inyo County Public Health Department. $hit!!!!! I realized that the week prior I was swimming in that pool! So after a long talk on the phone (and a huge phone bill) answering questions, I was told to go see my physician. Well, nothing ever came of it as I had past the incubation period of showing the signs of rabies, but to this day everyone in my physicians office knows me as batman... Hahahahaha.. *sigh*
