Whew!! I had just discovered this site a few days ago. I am 46 and have been travelling the far corners of the world's deserts since a very young child, first with my parents then on my own, now with my children. I can see there is validity in everyone's viewpoints that have been brought up since my original post. The insults that get flung around at each other and the impossibility of so many of you allowing others to have their own opinions makes even thinking about Death Valley a negative feeling. I think I'll just unbookmark this site and go back to the old fashioned way of meeting people, on the trail, the civilized way. To the lot of you, Rockcrawler,Cecile, SteveS,maddog, frisco,Bodie the Dog,Realist,Chuck-a-Walla, Won't go there and Goody2shz, thanks for the responses and just to show you my gratitude I'd like to recommend a favorite place of mine, maybe someplace new for a few of you: KOFA mountains national Wildlife refuge. I spent 8 days there last spring break, covered 140 miles in low gears at all times and saw not one other vehicle. It is absolutely stunning Sonoran desert, check it out. Also try Cabeza Prieta NWR. There I spent 6 days, 150 miles, only one other vehicle. See ya!
