I have been into the eastern part of Wingate Wash/Long Valley. Just before you reach the China Lake boundry there is a road heading east which will bring you out to the Warm Springs Valley Canyon. Along this lower part of the Wingate Pass road there is a sign "Welcome to Death Valley National Park" and a "painting " of a car.

To get to the remains of Thomas Wright's epsom salt mine and the start of the mono rail ( there are some of the "A" frames still standing) you have to come in from highway 127. Topo maps help a lot in finding the route. Take the Henry Wade eacape route north and about at the tungsten mine follow the main road west (Avawatz Pass quad, 15 minute). This road is in good condition as it is the access to the radio towers on top of a peak. Keep going thru the Leach Lake Quad, leaving the "paved" road and heading west. Next topo is the Quail Mountain quad. Along the way you will find two "dams" or levys that Wright built for water gatering. When you reach the Base boundary, follow the road paralling the fence north andyou can legally get to the epsom salt mine. The mine is still privately owned. Base security cannot keep you out as long as you do not try to go thru the fence. As a side note, China Lake Security does not have any Hummers for their security force.
