Via foot, from near the end of the Owlshead Mts. road, you can easily get into the upper stretches of Long Valley, including the site of the infamous Battle of Wingate Pass.
I understand that there are remains of the wooden monorail pillars inside the Navy's border in Layton, but I've not seen them. You can find a few scant and scattered remains of a pillar or two on the east shore of Searles Lake, however, it is difficult getting there.
