about 160 miles from barstow to the turn-off to saline via four corners, then on 395 to inyokern and turn off at olancha, along 190 towards darwin. then after the turn-off to saline (where the infamous "road closed" barricade is up), it is another say 50 miles on dirt road to the hot pools for example. i just did the trip to the pools from ridgecrest and it was a full day. you would have to leave at 4:00am and get back by midnight.
