It only takes one — and not just in Death Valley. Last year a woman died just outside Barstow after she became disoriented in the night trying to find help for a flat tire on her boyfriends ATV. They found her body two days later I think it was.

Heat can kill. I think the dangers are vastly underestimated by the general public. A few years ago, a very healthy young man drove his car with his mountain bike north of Ludlow along Broadwell Dry Lake. About 19 miles from town he got stuck. He figured he could ride his bike back to town for help. He laid down under a bush about a mile from town and that is where they found his body.

This is the basic story. Afterwards his parents sponsored a brochure on the dangers of desert heat to be distributed by the sheriff's department.
