In making my estimate of the watershed of Surprise Canyon I printed out, in black and white, a portion of the western side of the Panamints from a little south of Pleasant Canyon to Tuber Canyon, an area with six east-west bearing major canyons and five east-west ridges separating the canyons. In looking at the assemblage of canyons and ridges one is struck by symmetry of the units. All more or less in parallel, all start along the same line and all end along the same line and all about the same size. Any relationship to the cusps seen on beachs? I doubt that, but is there some underlying geological reason for the similarity of the canyons and ridges?
