During the height of the horsefly season at Indian Ranch .22 rifles loaded with birdshot were brought into play against the gray-backed predators. One unfortunate result of bringing all of the ranch’s Fliegerabwehrkanone into action was collateral damage, only the female fly bites, but in the heat of battle who has time to determine the sex of an attacking fly, down they went, the innocent males and their vicious mates.
