In my opinion, nothing builds courage in beginners more than following along with others with the same model vehicle! Plus, when you go with the Rover club, they make sure your vehicle gets through, with or without you.
Honestly, I would never send a beginners up there by themselves. Not only are some stretches challenging, but virtually the entire trail is very, very remote -- possibly deadly if the wrong storm moves in. At DeathValley.com, we rate the loop a 3 out of 4 because of this.
I can think of few backcountry routes as visually spectacular as the Cerro Gordo / Swansea Loop trail.
