Yellow Grade road is off of highway 36 across from Keeler. From the looks of the trip report you posted - you came down the Yellow Grade.
I'm sure you did just fine in that spot, by the way, and we wouldn't hesitate to do it on our own or with a group of friends. When doing a tour, as I said, we find it best to err in the cautious side - particularly when it's people who are new to us and we don't know what their skills are.
