Best "Get Back" vehicle?

After having a vehicle pack it in (in my driveway thank goodness) for a computer related problem, I wonder what the most "Get Backable" vehicle is? My main outback vehicle is a '68 suburban. It gets horrible mpg, but I can limp it home. Even with 7 out of 8 cylinders, I was the only help last new years in the south pass and pulled out a much newer truck. Anyone have an opinion of a newer vehicle and what computer/module spares to take with you?
