CDF chiefs (not sure about prevention officers) do have the ability to pull people over and issue tickets, etc. I know an over-zealous battalion chief who pulled over a 75 year old man for a driving offense on Interstate 80. The senior refused to recognize his authority, so Mr. CDF actually ordered him out at gunpoint. Ticket was dismissed and Mr. CDF got in a bit of trouble, but if he hadn't pulled the gun, who knows? But otherwise, never consent to a search. It sets a bad precedent, and we do still have some rights in this country. (Although the Supreme Court just ruled that cops can stop us at random and ask for identification papers.) Plus there's the potential nightmare associated with owning a used car. In some parts of this country, all they have to do is find a single marijuana seed in your car (from the previous owner, of course), and they can confiscate and prosecute.
