Great example. It appears the miners carved the circular pit out of solid granite. The one at Arrestre Spring has a rock floor (made from flat rocks) and rock walls made from individual rocks.

In your shot, we can see the drag stone that the mules (or oxen, or horses, or burros) dragged around. Sad to say, many of these artifacts have been destroyed by people ripping them apart in a foolish attempt to 'get the gold' that may have slithered through the cracks of the floor. LeRoy
