Yes that's Rocky Novak that you saw at Ballarat. If you think he's got some stories you should spend some time with his Dad George.
George is about 8 million years old and grew up with all the original Death Valley Old-Timers. I've spent hours enough to count for days listening to his stories. A book needs to be written about his life but he won't have anything to do with it.(I've tried)
Unless someone had some lights set up at the Campground in Ballarat, I really doubt the lights you saw where from there. What you saw would have been the lights from the Briggs Mine a little ways up Wingate Rd.
To bad you missed the drive up Lipincott Rd but now you have another reason to come back to DV
