Well, everybody has to be somewhere! I don't think many people come to this site and decide for the first time they are going out into the desert. I imagine it is the other way around - somebody has been to the desert and wishes to learn more. The first timer is more likely to be spending the night in Furnace Creek than Butte Valley.

My story - years ago on a trip with a general destination of Death Valley in ended up in Ballarat at twilight. Bought a map in the store, and started exploring the Panamint mountains. First night was spent at Clair's Camp up in Pleasant Canyon.

Does publicizing a location result in more people in a particular spot - sure. Would they likely be "out there" somewhere anyway? Probably. I was.

The biggest benefit to publicity and having people get out in the desert is to build up a larger group of people to advocate against road closures. To the extent we are few and far between we won't have much clout with our government.
