A lot of things have changed in the Last Chance Canyon and Nightmare Gulch area since the BLM land transfer in 1995. The State Park has implemented a number of "emergency" closures and re-routings. You'll find fewer hill climbs, sand pits, play areas, etc., now -- mainly only touring and recreational access opportunities, frankly.
And these are nothing compared to what is being proposed in the State Park's management plan for the Last Chance Canyon addition, to be implemented in early 2004. Many more routes of travel are slated for closure, and many other recreational uses now allowed will be prohibited. Big changes coming ahead in Last Chance Canyon unless more people get involved.
