Dennis, thanks for your reply - I agree that microclimates play a very important role here. I would be very interested to know more about the exact locations and types of temperature stations used in Death Valley (and a photo would be just [perfect!), especially Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells (quoted in the DVNP Morning Reports) and Badwater. Also Cow Creek, but this closed down in 1961. Regards, Martin.
